About the College

Lowestoft College has enjoyed a long and varied history since it was first established in the town 140 years ago.

Over the years, thousands of people have been through the doors to develop the new skills and qualifications they need for their future careers. Lowestoft College was originally established as an art college, but, over the years, more courses have been introduced and today range from the construction trades and engineering, to care, hairdressing and beauty therapy, as well as travel, catering, business, sport and uniformed services.

Lowestoft College’s popularity continues to grows and thousands of people choose to study with us each year. Here are some of the reasons why:

Range of Courses and Apprenticeships

Lowestoft College has continued to play a major role in the local community and is continually looking at how it can continue to meet the training needs of today’s workforce. As well as offering the more traditional courses, the College has been developing new programmes including a pre-apprenticeship with the ECITB, social media and sales apprenticeships in association with Hoseasons Holidays, a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts in partnership with the DPA Performing Arts Academy and has also introduced a new video games course.

Did you know that our courses may also offer a route to studying for a degree? For a number of courses you can study from a Level 1 or 2 course right up to a foundation or honours degree course. And, some of our courses also attract UCAS points which means that you can apply to study at university.

Over £8million Invested in the Campus

Major investment has been made to the campus over the years to make sure that our students are able to enjoy training in well-equipped facilities. New cladding has been installed to the tower block, the hairdressing and beauty therapy facilities were completely refurbished in recent years and, in the summer of 2015, the art facilities were completely renovated. Major investment has also been made to the engineering and maritime departments to ensure they stay up to date with industry standards.

Our Students and Lecturers Win National Awards

Each year many of our students enter local, regional and national competitions which help to test their knowledge and skills while helping to develop their confidence and self-belief. Many of our students and staff have won awards or competitions including the SEBTA award in Beauty Therapy, regional Skills competitions, Adult Learners’ Week Awards and the Bradford Textiles Awards.

Our Lecturers

Our lecturers are experts in their field and many have worked in the industry they are now teaching in. By training in the industry, they have been able to develop invaluable skills and are keen to pass their knowledge on to you. Many of our lecturers have also been able to build relationships with key players within their chosen field and those experts are often invited in to the college to pass on their experience of the industry, while other students have been lucky enough to enjoy site to some leading organisations including BA, Virgin, Maze Restaurant and Claridge’s.

Our Students Progress on to Employment and the Country’s Top Universities

Each year, students from Lowestoft College use the skills and their qualifications to secure work either locally, nationally or even internationally with some of the largest and most recognised companies in the world. Many have gone on to set up their own successful businesses and are now investing in the future workforce themselves by taking on apprentices of their own. Other students have chosen to boost their skills further with a degree at some of this country’s most prestigious universities.

Over 800 Employers Chose to Work With Us

Over the last year over 800 employers made the decision to work with Lowestoft College. Many chose to send their staff to top up their skills with short industry specific courses, while others made a major investment in their workforce by taking on apprentices or sending their staff to train for a foundation or honours degree through the University of Suffolk at Lowestoft College. Employers have also been working with the College to develop new and exciting programmes which have included a Digital Media Apprenticeship.

English and Maths Revision @ The Hub

Lowestoft College Nov 2016 (206)

From March 13th to the end of the academic year, we are running revision sessions – this includes English and Maths for GCSEs and Functional Skills. The aim will be to provide help on some of the areas of these subjects you are finding difficult, to practise exam papers under the guidance of specialist tutors and to give practical advice about revising in these subjects.

As a college, we are advising students to plan at least 2 hours of revision per week; attendance at these sessions can be a perfect way of keeping you on track to reach this goal.

Click the link below to see when these sessions will be taking place.

Good luck in your exams!
