14-19 Apprentice - Motor Vehicle

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Whilst on this programme, you will be working towards an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification), Key Skills and a Technical Certificate.

To start this Apprenticeship you need to be employed in the motor vehicle industry.

The desirable entry qualifications are 4 GCSE’s grade C or above including Maths, English, IT and Science. You will also undergo an interview and sit computer based assessments in numeracy and literacy.

What will I be doing?
Whilst working towards an Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle you will cover the following subjects:

NVQ Level 2 Mandatory Units
  • Contribute to good housekeeping
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety
  • Maintain positive working relationships
  • Remove and replace engine units and components
  • Remove and replace Electrical Auxiliary Units and Components
  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
  • Remove and replace Vehicle Chassis Units and Components
  • Plus two additional optional units
Key Skills
  • Communication Level 1
  • Information technology Level 1
  • Application of Number Level 1

  • Technical Certificate Level 2 and
  • Employer Rights and Responsibilities
How long will the course last and what patterns of attendance are available?
You will attend college one day per week and be in placement with a company for the remainder of the week. Training will last for 2 years.

How will my progress on the course be assessed?
This is continuous through the college based and work based assessments as well as completion of a portfolio (folder of work). Assessment of your practical skills and some of the underpinning knowledge is carried out at your workplace by an NVQ assessor. In addition you will also need to answer some oral questions to sow you understand what you have learned. Key skills will also be integrated and assessed within the programme.

What will I achieve?
On a successful completion of the programme you will have achieved the Apprenticeship (level 2) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR LEVEL 3

Whilst on this programme, you will be working towards an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification), Key Skills and a Technical Certificate.

To start an Advanced Apprenticeship you have to be employed in the motor vehicle industry.

You will need to have completed the Vehicle Maintenance and Repair level 2. In addition it is desirable for you have 4 GCSE’s grade C or above including Maths, English, ICT and Science.

What will I be doing?
Whilst working towards an Advanced Apprenticeship (AA) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair you will cover the following subjects:

NVQ Level 3 Mandatory Units
  • Contribute to good housekeeping
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety
  • Maintain positive working relationships
  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
  • Diagnose complex system faults
  • Rectify complex system faults
  • Inspect vehicles
  • Plus two additional optional units
Key Skills
  • A portfolio and external tests (subject to GCSE grades) in
  • Communication Level 2
  • Information technology Level 1
  • Application of Number Level 2

  • Employer Responsibilities and Rights
