THE SETTING

Lowestoft College Nurseries recieving the Suffolk Quality Kitemark Award

The Nurseries are managed by Lowestoft College which sets the following standards to ensure that the nurseries provide effective care and education to its children and provides a quality service for its parents/carers and clients.
  1. The Nurseries produce and maintain policies and procedures. All parents/carers recieve a copy of the Curriculum, Policies and Procedures Manual which contains information on:

    • Child Protection
    • Settling In
    • Confidentiality
    • Staffing & Employment
    • The Nursery's Curriculum

  2. Both Nursery premises adhere to legislative requirements as specified by the Children Act 1989 and relevant Health and Safety Standards.

  3. The Nurseries develop, deliver and review an appropriate curriculum for its children. The Nurseries are inspected by Ofsted and staff attend training provided by the DfES.

  4. Staff are appropriately trained and have access to further training. The College encourages staff to undertake training through its staff development policy. This may be "refresher" courses i.e. First Aid, workshops or further education i.e. HNC/HND.

  5. The Nurseries develop paratnerships with its parents/carers and clients. Parents/carers are welcome to discuss issues concerning their child at any time and staff are available when children are brought or collected for an informal talk. Bi-annual consultation meetings enable parents and staff to discuss their child's progress. Regular newsletters keep parents informed of nursery events.

  6. The Nurseries provide an efficient, cost-effective service for its users by using many of the College facilities, i.e. laundry and catering to reduce running costs. Both nurseries manage their own expenditure budget qhich is uses to purchase consumable supplies, toys and equipment etc.
