| These are a series of professional courses for students who wish to train for a new career or gain new skills and interests.
Although there are no formal entry requirements, an interview is required and candidates should be aware that they will be working towards professional qualifications.
Training and assessment is carried out within the college salons which operate as realistic working environments and external assessment papers must be passed.

Beauty Therapy - NVQ Level 2 - Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) |
This course is for anyone interested in a career in the health and beauty industry. The aim of the course is to equip students with the basic skills that will enable them to provide basic beauty services to clients.
You need to have a good educational background to 3 GCSE C Grade including English and science, supported by a favorable school or work reference.
It is of the utmost importance that you are a person who takes pride in your appearance and enjoys communicating with people. Enthusiasm, dedication, a mature attitude and competence in the use of the English language are prerequisites of this course.
You will be studying a variety of skill units related to Beauty Therapy which include:-
- Maintaining employment and Health and Safety standards
- Reception skills including client care, professionalism and communication
- Promote additional services and products to clients
- Importance of effective team work and relationships with clients and colleagues
- Manicure and Pedicure
- Professional treatments of the hands and feet
- Facial Treatments
- To include skincare techniques and facial massage
- Eyebrow and Lash Treatments
- Including lash and brow tinting, eyebrow shaping.
- Depilation
- Hot and warm waxing
- Applied Science
- Study of anatomy and physiology
- Cosmetic Make-up
- The study of make-up application techniques

Beauty Therapy - NVQ Level 3 - Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) |
This course is for anyone wishing to make a career in the health and beauty industry. The aim of the course is to equip you with the skills that will enable you to work in a variety of organisations as a professional Beauty Therapist.
You need to have a good educational background to 3 GCSEs including English and Science, supported by a favorable school or work reference. You need to have successfully completed Level 2 Beauty Therapy or an equivalent qualification. You must be able to provide a good reference from your personal tutor and have achieved 88% attendance throughout the Level 2 course. It is extremely important that you are a person who takes pride in their appearance and enjoys communicating with people. Enthusiasm, dedication and an ability to communicate, a mature attitude and competence in the use of the English language are prerequisites of this course.
You will be studying a variety of skills related to Beauty Therapy which include:-
- Professional planning of promotional activities
- Health & Safety Resource and Salon Management
- Advanced Facial and Body Electrical Treatments
- Epilation (permanent hair removal)
- Self Tanning Treatments
- Indian Head Massage
All practical sessions after initial training are client based where the College Salon (Images Beauty Salon) becomes a realistic working environment.

This course is for anyone interested in a career in the health and beauty industry. It is an ideal way to progress onto Level 2 Beauty Therapy.
You will be studying a variety of skills related to Beauty Therapy, which include:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
- Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
- Follow health and safety in the salon
- Reception skills including customer care, professionalism and ommunication
- Retailing, handling and control of salon stock
- Basic nail treatments
- Basic make-up application
- Introduction to other beauty treatments such as those explored at L2
- Introduction to professional holistic treatments eg Aromatherapy
- Elementary Anatomy and Physiology
- Functional Skills
- Personal and Social Development
You will spend the majority of your time in the Beauty Salon working closely with the beauty teaching team and fellow colleagues. Due to your close proximity with members of the public it is important that you project a positive image.

Diploma in Complementary Therapies - Level 3 |
This course is geared towards mature students who have a well developed interest in the non-traditional therapies.
This professional qualification consists of a broad range of specialist modules in complementary therapies including:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Body massage
- Reflexology
- Aromatherapy
- Priciples and practices for complementary therapies
- Health, safety and security
- Employment standards and business practice
- key skills
Entry requirements are Level 2 qualifications or three GCSEs at C/D or, for mature students, experience in life skills are required. Candidates will also have to satisfy the tutor at interview that they are capable of completing the demands of the course.
Successful completion will provide employment opportunities which include practitioners in salons, hospitals, medical centres and cruise ships or even self-employment. It may also lead to a Foundation Degree (FdA) in Holistic Therapies. |

Hairdressing - NVQ Level 1 |
This course will help those interested in a career in hairdressing gain the skills and qualifications to begin their career.
The course will develop hairdressing skills in order to progress to NVQ Level 2. There is the opportunity to progress to level 2 modules for those who show high levels of skill.
A mature attitude, self motivation, enthusiasm, good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure are essential. An interview and skills assessment and attendence on a full day hairdressing taster are required before acceptance on the course. |

This advanced programme consists of a series of specialist modules of study:

- Style hair using thermal techniques
- Provide hair extension services
- Creative hairdressing skills
- Colour correction services
- Colouring hair
There is also an emphasis on developing skills for life.
NVQ programmes are assessed on a continuous basis and a portfolio of evidence is compiled as the programme progresses.
Students will need an NVQ Level 2 and an interview before acceptance on the course. Achievement of this advanced qualification will provide broader career opportunities in the hairdressing industry.
